The next municipal elections will take place in October, 2022. Election topics of interest will be added to this webpage as election day period approaches.

General voting day will be October 15, 2022, 8am to 8pm at Victory Hall, 427-7th Avenue, Keremeos. There will be an advance voting opportunity (date to be determined), and mail ballots will be available.

Elections will be held for:

  • Mayor of Keremeos
  • Four Councillors in Keremeos
  • Two School Trustees serving Keremeos and RDOS Areas B and G

To vote you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older when they register to vote, or 18 years or older on general voting day
  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Have been a resident of B. C. for at least six months before they register to vote
  • Have either lived or owned property in the jurisdiction in which they intend to vote for at least 30 days before they register to vote
  • Not be disqualified under the Local Government Act, or any other enactment, or by law from voting in a local election

The Chief Election Officer and Deputy Chief Election Officer must swear an oath, affirming that they will conduct the elections strictly in accordance with the Local Government Act. In Keremeos:

Thinking about running for office?

There are some excellent resources available for individuals interested in running for office at this webpage. Prospective candidates are also welcome to speak to the Chief Election Officer about the requirements of running for office, or to an existing elected official to informally chat about what it is like.

To be eligible to run for local government office in a general local election, a person must have been a resident of B.C. at least six months before filing their nomination documents. They do not have to live or own property in the area where they are running for office. A person must also be:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day
  • a Canadian citizen
  • Not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from being nominated for, being elected to or holding office, or be otherwise disqualified by law

The formal nomination period takes place between August 30, 2022 at 9am and September 9, 2022 at 4pm.

Interested in working for the election?

The Village will be hiring staff for the advance and general voting day. Duties include greeting and wayfinding in the voting place, taking voter registrations and issuing ballots. $21/hour.

Submit an email indicating your interest in working in a voting place to Herman Gill, dceo@keremeos.ca with a short description of your election experience (though election experience is not a mandatory requirement). Note that those working on a candidate campaign will not be considered, but should ask the candidate about scrutineer opportunities.
