Information for Candidates

Qualifications

To qualify to run for local government office, a person at the time of nomination must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older (or will be 18 on General Voting Day);
  • Be a Canadian citizen;
  • Have been a resident of BC for at least six months prior to the date of nomination; and
  • Not be disqualified under the LGA, or any other enactment from being nominated for, elected to or holding the office, or otherwise disqualified by law.

Nomination Process

In August, a notice will go out as to which offices are up for election; when and where nominations will be received; instructions on how to obtain information on the requirements and procedures for making a nomination, campaign expenses and third party advertising limits.

The Village will host a Candidate Information Session in summer prior to releasing nomination documents.

The Nomination Period will be from September 1, 2026 to 4:00pm, September 11, 2026.

A person being nominated is not required to be a resident or non-resident property elector of the Village of Keremeos, so long as the person being nominated meets all the qualifications.

Nominators must be electors of the Village of Keremeos. 

A nomination must be made separately for each candidate by at least two qualified nominators of the Village.
