Please note:     Nomination documents are made available for public inspection under the  Local Government Act and information obtained from those documents must be used only in accordance with that Act:

• The information inspected or accessed will only be used for purposes permitted by Section 89(9) of the Local Government Act and Section 63 of the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act;
• Not use the information for any commercial purpose; and
• Not disclose, reproduce, or distribute the information except as permitted by law.

Information for Candidates

Qualifications

To qualify to run for local government office, a person at the time of nomination must:

• Be 18 years of age or older (or will be 18 on General Voting Day);
• Be a Canadian citizen;
• Have been a resident of BC for at least six months prior to the date of nomination; and
• Not be disqualified under the LGA, or any other enactment from being nominated for, elected to or holding the office, or otherwise disqualified by law.

Nomination Process

In August, a notice will go out as to which offices are up for election; when and where nominations will be received; instructions on how to obtain information on the requirements and procedures for making a nomination, campaign expenses and third party advertising limits.

Nomination Packages will be available online and for pickup from the Village Office as of 9:00am, August 10, 2026.   

The Village will be hosting a Candidate Information Session on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 4:30pm, in Council Chambers, 702 4th Street, Keremeos.  

The Nomination Period will be from September 1, 2026 to 4:00pm, September 11, 2026.

A person being nominated is not required to be a resident or non-resident property elector of the Village of Keremeos, so long as the person being nominated meets all the qualifications.

Nominators must be electors of the Village of Keremeos. 

A nomination must be made separately for each candidate by at least two qualified nominators of the Village.

How to Submit Nomination Documents

While you may submit your nomination documents by mail, fax or email, it is advisable to make an appointment with the Chief Election Officer to submit your nomination documents.  DO NOT wait until last minute to make your submission to avoid potential problems with the acceptance of the documents.  Incomplete nomination applications will not be accepted.  The cut-off to accept complete nomination documents is 4:00pm, Friday, September 11, 2026, as per LGA:s.84(1).  The Village Office will be open from 8:00am to 4:00pm on Friday, September 11, 2026.
