Garbage Collection

  • Place your carts at their collection point between 5:00am and 7:00am on your regular collection day.  (If you have a wildlife-resistant cart, it can be placed out locked the night before, and unclipped between 5:00am and 7:00am.)
  • Place your cart so the arrows on the lid point towards the street or road, and the wheels are by the curb.
  • Place your carts so there is a 1 metre (3ft) space on all sides.  Ensure there is 3 metres (10ft) of clearance above your cart.  Do not park vehicles withing 1.5 metres of the cart.

The garbage cart is for waste such as

  • Kitchen scraps, pet waste, and other household waste.

Make sure the lid can close, or collection will not occur.  Keep the inside of your cart clean by bagging your garbage.  Batteries, hazardous materials, and recyclables are not permitted in the garbage cart.

If you have extra garbage, you can purchase a tag-a-bag sticker for $2.50 at Keremeos Buy-Low Foods or the Village of Keremeos office.  Place the sticker on the top of the bag in clear view and place it next to your cart.  One tag-a-bag sticker is good for one bag of excess garbage.

Recycling

Recycling occurs every two weeks on your regular garbage day.  Place out your recycling by 7:00am on your collection day.

The recycle cart is for curbside recyclable materials only.  Place these materials loosely with no plastic bags, and make sure the lid can close.  Glass, flexible plastics, styrofoam, scrap metal, and books can only be recycled at depots or landfills.  For a list of curbside recyclable materials and where you can take other materials that can not go into the recycling cart, click here

Yard Waste

Yard Waste is picked up every two weeks on your regular garbage day.  The yard waste cart is for yard and garden waste only.  This includes

  • Grass clippings, leaves, prunings, pine needles and cones, and branches up to 5cm in diameter.

Make sure the lid can close, or collection will not occur.  Do not put food scraps, lumber, pet waste, ‘compostable’ plastic, lawn tools, or other garbage in the yard waste cart.

Unlimited yard waste collection will occur a minimum of four times per year in your Area.  Exact dates and details can be found in your most recent collection calendar.

During the unlimited yard waste collection events, you can use paper yard waste bags, cans, stick bundles, or carts in addition to your RDOS yard waste cart.  Place the materials at your regular collection point.

Large Item Collection

The large item pickup allows each home to place out two items per year for residential pickup.  The items such as furniture and appliances are listed below.  For the annual pickup date please consult your curbside calendar.

  • Maximum of 2 items per household, with a maximum weight of 90kg (200lbs) per item.
  • Furniture
  • Carpets
  • Fridge, freezer and other large appliances (please remove door and shelves and place them beside the unit for safer pickup)
  • BBQ (hoses, tank, oil drip pan removed)
  • Mattresses and boxsprings (placing out a mattress and a box spring would count as two items)
  • Gym equipment

The Regional District will NOT pickup any home renovation/demolition waste or automotive parts, including toilets, hot water tanks and other bathroom fixtures.
