Getting to Keremeos
No matter what direction you are coming from, the drive to Keremeos is beautiful. Travelling east to Keremeos from Vancouver using Highway 3 (Crows Nest Highway), takes you through Manning Park and along the Similkameen River. Coming from the north, down Highway 97, Okanagan and Skaha Lakes are along most of the route. When driving up from the south, such as Osoyoos, up Highway 3, the unique Spotted Lake is along the way.
Whatever the season is, it is best to check with DriveBC on road conditions before heading out.
Airport access is available through the Penticton Regional Airport (YYF), 40 minutes from Keremeos. Kelowna International Airport (YLW) is 1.5 hours away.
The Canadian-USA border is just 40 minutes southeast at the Oroville-Osoyoos Border crossing. Please visit https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/menu-eng.html before crossing the border.
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
There are two locations within the Village of Keremeos for charging electric vehicles:
Sani-Dump
The Sani-Dump station is located at 802 Veterans Avenue next to the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The station accepts only credit cards, and the user fee is $10.00.
Transit
BC Transit provides service on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Princeton to Penticton and back with two designated stops in Keremeos, with two other ones available upon request. It is advised to call at least one day ahead, during office hours, for pick up schedule or to arrange pick up. To make a request, call 1-844-442-2212.
Health Clinic
The South Similkameen Health Centre is located at 700 3rd Street, Keremeos. They are open Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm, but may not always have emergency services available. Telephone: 250-499-3000.
If the South Similkameen Health Centre is not available, the Penticton Regional Hospital at 550 Carmi Avenue (approx. 45 minute drive) would be the closest emergency service. If your emergency is more immediate, call 911.
Wildfires
Wildfire occurrences are increasing throughout the province. The South Okanagan experiences wildfires every year. Wildfires may affect road closures and air quality. Evacuation alerts and orders may affect the area you are visiting. Please check ahead on fire conditions with BC Wildfire Service. Keremeos is located within the Kamloops Fire Center. If you have concerns about air quality, click here for the air quality health index under South Okanagan.
Weather
Summers are hot and dry, and winters are short and mild with occasional dry, powdery snow. Keremeos is an Okanagan First Nation’s word meaning, “Meeting of the Winds”. It can get very windy here, which is much appreciated during the hot summer months.
