Sept 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On Friday, September 30, 2022, the Village of Keremeos will be recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

A well-attended Every Child Matters Vigil was held on September 28 in Memorial Park. The Village will also be collaborating with the Lower Similkameen Indian Band on a Truth and Reconciliation commemorative project.

Village office closed Sept 19, 2022

As Monday, September 19, 2022, has been declared a national day of mourning, the Keremeos municipal office will be closed and the Regular Council meeting scheduled for September 19 at 4:30 pm will be cancelled. Agenda items scheduled for that meeting will be shifted to the October 3, 2022, meeting agenda.

Declaration of candidates for election

On Friday, September 9, 2022 at 4:00 pm, the nomination period for the upcoming general local elections in Keremeos came to a close. The declared candidates for Mayor are (alphabetical here, but ballot order will be drawn by lots):
  • Arlow, Arlene
  • Wiebe, Jason

As four nominations were received for the four positions of Councillor, the following candidates will be elected by acclamation:

  • Evans, Jeremy
  • Elliott, Garry
  • Henderson, Tracy
  • Holley, Arden

As two nominations were received for the two positions of School Trustee, the following candidates will be elected by acclamation:

  • Marten, Debbie
  • Watson, Chris

General voting day is Saturday, October 15, 2022, 8 am to 8 pm at Victory Hall, 427-7th Avenue, Keremeos. An advance voting opportunity will be offered on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, 8 am to 8 pm, also at Victory Hall. Mail ballots are available for this election. Please contact the Village Office if you wish to apply for a mail ballot, 250-499-2711.

Mayor's statement on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

“On behalf of the Village of Keremeos Council, I wish to extend our sincere condolences on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and acknowledge her incredible dedication to a lifetime of service.

Canadian flags in Keremeos will be flown at half-mast in her honour until sunset on the day of the memorial service for Her Majesty the Queen.”
